Stanyar House

About Stanyar House

Stanyar House was built in 1992, a new home made to look old. Lucy designed it with a bed and breakfast in mind and had an architect draw up the plans. She was the general contractor and loved every minute of it. The goal of was to make it look old with all the modern conveniences including central air conditioning for those few hot muggy days.

John hunted down most of the antiques and collectibles that the house is decorated with.

Attention to detail helps makes your stay as comfortable as possible. In each room are books, magazines, bubble bath and a hair blower. The house is solidly built with hardly a creak on any of the dark oak floors. There is insulation in most walls and floors making for a quiet home.

There is a private den with gas fireplace for our guests use, lots of movies, games, candles, books and magazines for your enjoyment. Country Living, Cottage Life and Century Home are two of our favorites.

The village of Perkins is only 2 miles away where you will find a couple of basic local restaurants, or you can pick up some prepared food and a bottle of wine at the local grocer's deli, then bring it back to the lake to enjoy.

A private dining room is complete with a small fridge, microwave, coffee, tea and disposible utensils should you wish to bring a lunch or dinner as well as a small freezer where you can keep any food you bring and get ice.

Stanyar House is surrounded by hills, trees and many trails, which in the winter, make snow shoeing (I have snowshoes for you to use) and skiing ideal although skiing on our property is a bit of a challenge. The Gatineau Park which is 20 minutes away has some amazing groomed trails. The snow mobile trails on the property make wonderful walking paths. There are four downhill ski resorts within a half hour drive. With over two hundred acres of lakefront, stream and forest, it is the ideal spot for anyone interested in bird watching or tracking.

Dog sledding is available nearby.

In the summer you can canoe, hike and swim off of the swimming raft in the middle of the lake. There are two canoes and a paddle boat. No sandy beaches....the lake is a mud bottom lake with weeds on the shoreline and the wildlife abounds. In June and part of July you will hear a symphony of bull frogs. There are no motor boats on the lake, adding to the peace and tranquility.

Horseback riding is a 20 minute drive away. It is also a great area for bird watching.

Although it appears to be in the middle of nowhere, a 15 minutes drive will get you to all of Gatineaus shopping centers, cinemas and restaurants, 20 minutes to Hull casino, Gatineau Park, and 30 minutes to downtown Ottawa. You can literally have the best of both worlds.
