Stanyar House was built in 1992, a new home made to look old. Lucy designed it with a bed and breakfast in mind and had an architect draw up the plans. She was the general contractor and loved every minute of it. There is central air conditioning for those few hot muggy days. It is ideally suited for three couples or individuals. John hunted down most of the antiques and collectibles that decorate the house. There are three tastefully decorated bedrooms, each has an en-suite bath, two complete with cast iron tubs to soak away your cares and the master suite has a whirlpool, gas fireplace and balcony. Each bedroom has a queen size bed with pillow top mattress, down duvet, and patchwork quilt. There is also a fold out cot with 4" mattress.
Attention to detail helps makes your stay as comfortable as possible. In each room there are books, magazines, bubble bath and a hair blower. The house is solidly built with hardly a creak on any of the dark oak floors. There is insulation in most walls and floors making for a quiet home. There is also a separate den with gas fireplace, lots of movies, games, candles, loads of books and magazines for your enjoyment. Country Living, Cottage Life and Century Home are just a few of our favorites. There is satelite TV (50 " screen) as well as a DVD player & movies both in VHS & DVD.
There is a basement apartment that has its own private entrance at the back that is occupied by a quiet working couple.
We are surrounded by hills, trees and many trails, which in the winter; make snow shoeing (we have snowshoes for you to use) and skiing ideal. The snow-mobile trails make wonderful walking paths. There are four downhill ski resorts within a half hour drive. With over two hundred and fifty acres of lakefront, stream, hills and forest, it is the ideal spot for anyone interested in bird watching or tracking. Marked trails throughout. Dog sledding is available nearby.
In the summer you can canoe, hike and swim off of the swimming raft in the lake which is complete with chairs and diving board. There are two canoes, a paddleboat and life jackets for your use, you should however provide your own personal life jackets as everyone is a different size and shape. No sandy beaches....the lake is a mud bottom lake with weeds on the shoreline and wildlife abounds, although I have put down a ground barrier and sand at the immediate shoreline. In June and part of July you will hear a symphony of bull frogs. There are no motor boats on the lake, adding to the peace and tranquility.
The village of Perkins is only 3 miles away where you will find a couple of basic local restaurants, or you can pick up some prepared food and a bottle of wine/beer/liquor at the local grocer's deli, then bring it back to the lake to enjoy. There is a BBQ & extra tank for your use. The front of the house (side facing the lake) is an open concept, dining, living, kitchen and den with another gas fireplace. Attached to that is a screened porch and large deck. Fully equipped kitchen with dinnerware for 16, dishwasher, gas stove/oven, coffee maker, etc. You just need to bring your main grocery. Help yourself to the spices. The attic (third floor) will be closed off. The rental is for the main and second floor, approximately 2600 square feet with a quiet working couple living in the basement apartment.
